Chen Danqing (b. 1953, Shanghai, China) is an artist, writer and art critic. He graduated from China Central Academy of Fine Arts. From 1970 to 1978, Chen wasforced to move to the countryside and settle down, firstly in southern Ganzhou and later in northern Suzhou. It was during this period that he taught himself painting and began to get well known as an “educated young painter”. In 1980, his”Tibetan Paintings” won him a wide recognition in the “art circle” home and abroad. This series is considered as a classic marking the beginning of a new era when dogmatic creations are discarded and Europe becomes the source to trace to. Chen Danqing’s writings and paintings are both in an elegant and plain style, showing the unique charm possessed by a wise and frank man as he is.
